New Crabs... But badly treated!

I went on vacation to Delaware to go to the beach for a week. We went to a boardwalk one of the days and many stores and were selling hermit crabs. They were in wire cages and they were all jammed in. In the first place we saw them in the had them separated by sizes. The little ones were practically on top of each other and most of the crabs were in painted shells. Who would do that to such nice little creatures?
